Danish national transmission system operator Energinet has started studies for the proposed up 1GW Thor offshore wind farm off the coast of Denmark.
The company said about Dkr180m (€24m) will be spent on the feasibility studies at the proposed project site 20km into the North Sea off Thorsminde.
Preliminary investigations will start immediately, with the first vessels on site after the summer holidays.
Energinet board chairman Lars Barfoed said: “It is important that thorough feasibility studies be carried out so that the Danish state can get the best and most competitive bid to construct and operate the offshore wind farm.
“If bidders know the geology under the seabed, know the environmental consequences, wind conditions, currents, wave heights, etc, we remove a lot of uncertainties and risks and get a sharper price.
“This makes the offshore wind farm cheaper for Denmark and the Danes. The money spent on feasibility studies can come several times again in the form of lower bids from the companies that want to set up the turbines.”
