Nordex Group has launched a new version of its Delta4000 turbine model, the fourth in the series.
The N155/4.5 is built on the same architecture as previous machines in the Delta4000 series, but adds a longer glass fibre rotor and a different hub set-up to optimise performance for specific site conditions.
The 4.5MW turbine has a rotor of 155 metres and will have three tower configurations – one 108 metres tall and made from steel, another 120-metre concrete unit and a 164-metre hybrid version.
Production of the N155/4.5 is due to start in late 2020.
Nordex said the new turbine is aimed at growth markets with medium wind conditions and without strict requirements on maximum noise levels or high levels of effective turbulence intensity, such as the US, Latin America, South Africa and South-east Asia.
Nordex chief executive Jose Luis Blanco said: “This product is a logical extension of the Nordex Group’s product strategy to leverage common components while creating optimised derivatives to achieve the lowest cost of energy for specific markets.
“The standard technical platform of the Delta4000 series enables us to continuously develop highly efficient solutions for a wide range of wind regimes and adapting the products to different, very particular market requirements.”
Nordex launched the turbine at the AWEA Windpower 2019 conference in Houston, which runs from 20 to 23 May.
