The presidents of six coastal regions and renewable energy groups in France have called for a meeting with the country’s Prime Minister to try and persuade the government to be more ambitious with its offshore wind plans.
They would like to see annual tenders of at least 1GW a year, instead of the goals of 2.4GW by 2023, and between 4.7GW and 5.2GW by 2028 released in January.
The presidents and groups believe more ambitious volumes will enable the energy transition that the country needs, as well as reduce costs.
They fear the country could miss out on the opportunities provided by offshore wind if the current targets remain in place.
The French renewable energy syndicate and wind energy association FEE said: “Offshore wind power is today one of the most competitive energy sectors in Europe, and France will be no exception, as the call for tenders in Dunkerque should prove.”
