Irish Sea Contractors have launched a cable repair habitat called Aersub that they say could reduce costs by 50%.
Aersub is specifically designed to enable the repair of faulty power cables in-situ subsea on the seabed, the company said.
The habitat provides an alternative to traditional lift-to-repair solutions, it added.
Aersub has been deployed on a demonstration cable repair at Rosslare Europort to show its capabilities.
Irish Sea Contractors has also launched a training programme in County Wexfor to train people to repair cables using Aersub.
Irish Sea Contractors managing director David Kinsella said: “I feel like the team I have coached and poured my heart and soul into these last few years has just won the county GAA finals.
“I am incredibly proud of all of the Irish Sea Contractors team and family who have made this a reality and look forward to completing our first customer cable repair using Aersub soon.”
