Enercon has installed turbines in France totalling 4GW with the installation of eight E-44 900kW machines at the La Montagne 2 wind farm.
The project is located in the French overseas territory of Guadeloupe in the Caribbean.
Enercon is installing the turbines as part of a repowering project for Quadran Groupe Direct Energie, a subsidiary of Total.
The E-44’s will replace 35 legacy machines, the company said.
Enercon director France Peter Schuster said: “We are thrilled with this accomplishment and are proud of our team, who have all been involved in this success starting right back in 2003.”
The company said it has over 850 employees in France and has a 25% market share, based on installed power in 2018.
Schuster added: “For us, reaching 4GW is an important interim step on the way to implementing the energy transition in France.
“The country still offers considerable potential for onshore wind energy and has ambitious renewable energy targets, so we will not waver in our commitment there.”
