The US Department of Energy is providing over $28m funding that aims to boost wind power research and development in the country.
Up to $10m will be available for offshore wind technology demonstration projects that aim to reduce energy risk and cost at wind farms that will be operational no later than 2025.
A further $7m will go to utilising and upgrading national-level facilities for offshore wind research and development.
Projects to boost rural economic development with wind farm technology will have up to $6.1m made available, and $5m will be given for a project to develop tall towers of over 140 metres.
Interested parties have until 15 June to apply, with concept papers required by 25 April.

“Research, development, and demonstration of innovative wind technologies can continue to drive down costs, and expand the success that we’ve seen in the land-based utility-scale wind sector to the emerging distributed wind and offshore wind sectors.”
