Denmark and Turkey are extending an existing cooperation agreement between the two countries to include a focus on offshore wind energy.
The Danish Energy Agency has supported Turkey on its green transition in the heating sector since 2017 and will now assist with offshore wind development.
DEA will provide assistance on policies, strategies and solutions for offshore wind based on the Denmark’s experience in the sector.
Dialogue is already underway between the agency and the local authorities and representatives from the Turkish wind industry, DEA said.
It added that immediate opportunities for offshore wind in Turkey are between 7GW and 10GW, but could be more with further analysis.
DEA deputy director Martin Hansen said: “The Turkish authorities have requested an extension of our existing energy cooperation, and we see this as a recognition of the cooperation and confidence so far with the Danish Energy Agency.
“We look forward to good results, where we are given the opportunity to make visible Danish experiences and solutions for offshore wind.”
Danish ambassador to Turkey Svend Olling said: “I am really happy that the existing cooperation has borne fruit and therefore is now being expanded to cover offshore wind.
“The positive cooperation so far contributes to my having great expectations for the new project.”
