DTE Energy has started commercial operations at the over 161MW Pine River wind farm in Michigan.
The 65-turbine project (pictured) was developed and built by Invenergy, with ownership transferring to DTE on completion.
Construction generated 250 jobs from 22 different Michigan companies.
DTE Energy chief executive Gerry Anderson said: “DTE was among the first energy companies in the nation to announce a broad sustainability initiative consistent with what scientists say is necessary to address climate change globally and do it in a way that maintains affordability and reliability for our customers.
“Bringing Pine River online is helping us meet the commitment we’ve made to our customers while contributing to the health of Michigan’s economy.
“It is our next step in continuing the fundamental transformation of the way we generate power in Michigan, while maintaining our focus on reliability and affordability.”
DTE plans to bring online more than 1GW of wind and solar by 2022.
Since 2009, the company has invested over $2.8bn in renewable energy and plans to invest an additional $2bn in clean power over the next five years.
