Renewable energy sources accounted for 56.5% of electricity supply in north-east Germany last year, according to transmission system operator 50Hertz.
Calendar 2018 marked the second year in history that more than half of the region’s electricity was generated by renewables, after the proportion hit 53.4% in 2017.

The installed capacity of renewable energy in the 50Hertz grid area rose 5.1% in 2018 to 32.9GW, up from 31.3GW in 2017.
Germany has set a goal of generating 65% of its electricity from renewables by 2030.
50Hertz said it expected to achieve the target in its grid area in 2021.
