Anglo-Dutch energy major Shell is looking to secure UK offshore wind development rights at the Crown Estate’s up to 7GW Round 4 lease round, which is due to open later this year.
Mark Gainsborough (pictured), executive vice president of the company’s New Energies division, told Reuters Shell will take an “active role” in bidding for new acreage at the next auction round.
“We absolutely would like to get a position in the UK offshore market,” he said.
Gainsborough also told Reuters uncertainty over Brexit will not dampen Shell’s ambition for offshore wind development in the UK.
“The thing that is more important is there continue to be supportive government policies,” he said.
The UK Crown Estate is currently reviewing final consultation responses ahead of formally opening the leasing round this Spring.
