The UK Government has approved plans by oil and gas joint venture Repsol Sinopec to decommission the two-turbine Beatrice offshore wind demonstration project in the Moray Firth off Scotland.
Two 5MW Repower turbines, initially installed in 2007, will be removed between 2024 and 2029, according to filings to Energy Department BEIS.
Life extension options as well as reuse of the units, including incorporation into the under-construction 588MW Beatrice wind farm, were all examined.
“All were found to be sub‐economic, and consequently the facilities are to be decommissioned,” Repsol Sinopec said in filings.
The two supporting jacket foundations will also be removed.
The proposal is part of wider plans to decommission down the Beatrice field some 90km northeast of Inverness.
