The Renewables Consulting Group is setting up a Japanese business unit based in a new office in Tokyo in anticipation of “significant investment” in offshore wind in the country.
RCG said the new office will support existing business in Japan and serve other clients in the Asia-Pacific region.
The consultancy said a country lead for Japan has been recruited, who will take up the post shortly.
More details on the appointment and further hires will be made shortly, it added.
The company is already supporting offshore projects in Japan, according to RCG new markets manager Gareth Lewis.
“Japan is an exciting market and we are delighted to be assisting clients with our technical advisory services,” he said.
“We are experienced in working on first-of-a-kind renewables projects and it is fantastic to be working on to support the development of offshore wind in Japan.”
RCG chief executive Sebastian Chivers said: “The emerging offshore wind market in Asia is drawing significant interest from international and domestic developers and investors.
“The opening of our Tokyo office will allow RCG to extend our market-leading advisory services to our local clients and will strengthen current and future projects across Asia-Pacific.
“The decision to establish a major presence in Japan builds upon our bold plans for continued growth worldwide.”
