Utility developer SSE has officially completed the 228W Stronelairg wind farm in the Scottish Highlands.
The company said the £350m project near Fort Augustus has been successfully completed with all 66 Vestas 3.45MW turbines commissionned.
Stronelairg is the final SSE project to be accredited under the Renewables Obligation and pushes the company’s onshore portfolio to 2.1GW.
SSE is working towards the sale of a 50% stake in the project alongside the nearby and already-operational 94MW Dunmaglass.
“The potential sale is in line with SSE’s strategy to create value from developing and operating assets as well as owning them,” it said.
“Should a sale be completed, SSE will continue to be the operator of both wind farms and will retain significant future development rights in relation to them.”
Stronelairg is situated within a natural bowl on a plateau on average some 600 metres above sea level. Its load factor is expected to be around 42% in a typical year.
SSE wholesale director Martin Pibworth said: “To have completed Stronelairg ahead of schedule and on budget, despite the additional challenges associated with its altitude and the weather conditions experienced in the winter of 2017-18, is a tribute to the skill and professionalism of the teams that designed, developed and built the wind farm.”
