Siemens Gamesa has inaugurated a new research and development centre in the Indian state of Karnataka.
The hub at Bengaluru will support global engineering and technology requirements for software and design engineering for onshore and offshore turbines.
It is one of three such facilities Siemens Gamesa operates around the world, with the other two in Spain and Denmark.
The Bengaluru operation currently employs 500 people and is expected to expand to 700 staff by the end of next year.
Siemens Gamesa chief technology officer Antonio De La Torre said: “We are happy to inaugurate our new technology centre in Bengaluru. With digitalisation positioned as a key strategy for our growth globally, we are looking at developing impactful technologies that will help us create better value for our customers and society at large.
“Given India’s pool of talents and proficiency in both digital and mechanical technologies, we believe that this centre will be one of the key answers in achieving our vision.”
India hub head of engineering Venkata Ramakrishna said: “Having India as one of the three technological hubs is a testament to India’s software and engineering talent pool.
“The team in India is a mix of engineers who are proficient in both software technologies and engineering competencies contributing to the lifecycle of the engineering value chain.
“We are confident that the skill and talent available in India will help (Siemens Gamesa) to design and build the next generation wind turbines.”
