Enercon has made “important investment decisions” on its 1GW-plus Markbygden 2 project in northern Sweden and is planning to complete the development in 2021.
The German company said Swedish transmission network operator Svenska Kraftnät had been commissioned with ensuring connection to the grid by July 2020.
“Construction work for creation of the grid connection has already started,” a spokesman said.
The company had also begun “infrastructure measures”, including “uprooting and construction of access roads”, he added.
Enercon declined to clarify whether it had yet made a final investment decision on the project, or how many turbines it intended to install.
The commencement of early works and Enercon’s plan for a 2021 completion date were first reported by Montel.
