The US state of Rhode Island has received total of 41 bids, including plans for offshore wind projects, in response to a request of proposals to provide 400MW of renewable energy.
The state received proposals from 11 companies, including EDF, EDP Renewables, Deepwater Wind, Apex Clean Energy and Vineyard Wind.
Deepwater Wind is proposing an expansion of about 100MW to its planned 400MW Revolution Wind offshore wind farm and also bid for a new offshore project of about 350MW called Independent Wind. Vineyard Wind also submitted a proposal for a new offshore wind farm.
In total, Rhode Island received bids of nearly 2.5GW, which also included onshore wind and solar plants.
The bids will now go through an evaluation process, and any accepted bids will be subject to a regulatory review by the state’s Public Utilities Commission.
Rhode Island governor Gina Raimondo said: “Rhode Island continues to lead the nation in growing our clean energy economy.
“In just the last two years, we’ve tripled our renewable energy supply while creating hundreds of green jobs. The overwhelming response to this procurement shows that we are ready to keep building on this momentum. I look forward to moving forward with this process and bringing additional clean, affordable and reliable energy to our state.”
