Mitsubishi Electric Corp is to provide an energy management system for a 240MW energy storage project connected to over 500MW of wind power in Japan
The contract for the Blender Re system has been awarded by Chiyoda Corp, which will execute the design, engineering and construction for the Grid Reinforcement Pilot Project for Wind Turbines, which is led by North Hokkaido Wind Energy Transmission Corp.
Mitsubishi’s Blender Re system will monitor and control the battery and power conditions at the Kita-Toyotomi substation, which is owned by the North Hokkaido Wind Energy Transmission Corp.
North Hokkaido Wind Energy Transmission Corp is providing transmission and energy storage for the project which aims to connect wind farms totalling more than 500MW to grid in northern Hokkaido.
The energy-storage system will help to provide balance and strengthen grid stability when it starts operations, which is expected by March 2023.
