A delegation from the Barbados government has visited Orkney and Glasgow to gain insight on the Scottish marine energy industry.
The 11-strong delegation (pictured) included representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources and Bajan utility Barbados Light and Power.
The party spent two days touring the European Marine Energy Centre, witnessing Wello’s 1MW Penguin wave device and Orbital Marine Energy’s 2MW SR2000 tidal turbine.
The delegation also met with Orkney companies Aquatera, Green Marine, Wello plus the Orkney Islands Council followed by a meeting with members of the Sustainable Islands International programme at Scottish Government’s offices at Atlantic Quay in Glasgow.
That included ITP Energised, Aggreko, Wood, Star Renewables and Ricardo Energy & Environment, who lead the Sustainable Islands International programme.
Offshore renewables are a key part of the Barbados’ energy strategy, including ocean thermal energy conversion, fixed and floating wind, sea water air conditioning and wave.
