Norwegian power company Statkraft has taken a final investment decision to build the 23MW Kilathmoy wind farm in Ireland, its first project in the country.
The €31.5m site on the Limerick/Kerry border will feature seven Nordex N100/3300 turbines (pictured).
Construction will start shortly and the wind farm will be operational in late 2019.
“We are very pleased to announce our first investment decision in Irish renewables,” said head of development Kevin O’Donovan.
“Statkraft is already Europe’s largest producer of renewable energy and sees Ireland as a key market given its significant renewable energy resources.
“We are already playing a leading role in the transition to a low carbon future and believe that our experience and capabilities will be of service to Ireland in this transition over the coming years.”
Kilathmoy is the most advanced project acquired by Statkraft from its recent acquisition of an Irish and Scottish development portfolio from Element Power.
