Britvic, which makes Robinsons fruit squash, Tango and J2O, has quenched its desire to go a little greener by signing a four-year deal with German energy company Eon.
From this month, all its British sites – whether offices, warehouses or factories – will be powered by 100% renewable electricity.
The company, which also produces Pepsi, 7UP and Lipton Ice Tea under licence, said Eon will fulfil demand from its entire business operation with “100% wind generated electricity, sourced from the UK”.
Britvic senior sustainability manager Alison Rothnie described it as a “significant step, not only in helping us to minimise the environmental impact of our operations and reduce our carbon emissions, but also supporting the development of a low-carbon future for the UK”.
Eon business energy sales director Iain Walker said Britvic was one of an increasing number of companies looking at ways to reduce carbon footprints through a Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin-backed supply.
“We are proud our bespoke solutions are contributing to the ongoing energy security of Britvic’s site and in reducing the environmental impact,” he added.
Britvic said the move will save more than 17,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year, equivalent to taking more than 3300 cars off the road for a year.
The company, based in Hertfordshire, did not disclose the value of the contract, nor whether they toasted the deal with a round of Fruit Shoot.
