Marine contractor OMM believes has called on companies and associations in the EU and UK offshore wind sectors to come together to have a tough, frank conversation on the future of the industry post-Brexit.
OMM has issued the plea as the offshore European wind energy industry converges at the Global Wind Summit in Hamburg from 25-28 September.
OMM director Rob Grimmond said he is keen to meet with other EU companies at the conference to discuss how they can work together to ensure that the industry thrives in a future Europe that may have borders but requires the free movement of people and equipment.
He would like to see companies join forces to engage with EU and UK government representatives on the issue.
He said: “The negative impact of a no-deal Brexit, or a Brexit that restricts the movement of workforces in British and European waters, could be extremely harmful for the industry as a whole if we do not have these conversations now.
“Time and efficiencies of people movements and the delays caused to offshore vessels at high prices will be borne by the industry and will be counterproductive to the investment and industry gains to date.”
