German developer WPD has started construction of the first 135MW phase of the Torozos wind complex in Spain.
The first stage will comprise 39 Siemens Gamesa 3.4-132 turbines and is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2019.
Work on the second 65MW stage will start as soon as phase one is completed, WPD said.
Electrical infrastructure for the whole project will also be installed during the first phase, it added.
The wind farms will be built on the Torozos plateau in Castilla y Leon and will share a grid connection at La Mudarra.
WPD was awarded the contract to build the projects in the summer of 2017 following Spain’s third call for tenders for renewable energies.
WPD board member Gernot Blanke said: “WPD has been active in Spain for many years. Since the beginning, we have successfully developed 240MW with our local team there.”
