German renewables developer WPD has named Achim Berge Olsen as head of its offshore wind division at the group level and has appointed him to the company’s management board.
He joins Gernot Blanke and Hartmut Brosamle on the board, which expands to three people from two previously.
Berge Olsen (pictured) joined WPD in 2001 and has built the company’s offshore business. WPD has developed a portfolio of 22 projects, including the 288MW Butendiek in 2015 and the 111MW Nordergrunde wind farms in German offshore waters.
The company is also focusing on new offshore markets including France and Taiwan.
In France, WPD is developing the 498MW Fecamp and 450MW Courseulles-sur-Mer projects with Eolien Maritime France, a joint venture between EDF Energies Nouvelles and Canadian company Enbridge.
The Yunlin and Guanyin offshore Taiwanese projects totalling 1GW were awarded to WPD in April 2018. They are expected to come online in 2020 and 2021.
