EDP Renovaveis Brasil has won power purchase agreements for two wind farms totalling 429MW in the latest Brazilian energy auction.
The 176MW Jerusalem and 253MW Monte Verde wind farms, which will be located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, secured 20-year PPAs in the A-6 2018 auction to sell electricity in the country’s regulated market.
Both projects are slated to come online at the start of 2024.
The price of the long-term contracts was set at R$94 (€19.5) a megawatt-hour and R$87/MWh respectively, indexed to the Brazilian inflation rate.
The win doubles EDPR’s pipeline of wind farms under construction and development in Brazil to 0.8GW, which will start operations between this year and 2024.
EDPR said its total portfolio in Brazil is set to hit 1.1GW by 2024.
EDPR chief executive Joao Manso Neto said: “Brazil represents a strategic market for the company. The abundance of wind resources, stable regulation and our experience in the market makes us very optimistic for the future in this region.”
