Seajacks jack-up Scylla has installed the first foundation at Northland Power’s 268.8MW Deutsche Bucht offshore wind project in the German North Sea.
Scylla is tackling three monopiles and transition pieces per round-trip from the port of Cuxhaven for the project’s balance of contractor Van Oord.
The project will feature 31 transition pieces fabricated by an Idesa and Windar Renovables joint venture in Aviles, Spain.
The transition pieces will be installed on top of 31 monopiles supplied by EEW Special Pipe Constructions.
Foundation installation is slated to be wrapped up before the end of the year.
Northland Deutsche Bucht project director Jens Poulsen said: “We are very pleased to have achieved this important milestone. Thanks to the committed Deutsche Bucht project team and our experienced general contractor, Van Oord, the offshore building phase of the wind farm started on schedule.”
MHI Vestas will supply and install 8.4MW turbines in 2019.
In addition to the project’s 31 conventional monopiles, two turbines will be installed on Universal Foundation-made suction bucket monopile foundations. Installation of the substructures is scheduled for next spring.
The €1.4bn project is situated some 95km off the island of Borkum in water depths around 40 metres and will be connected to the 800MW BorWin Beta offshore grid hub in operation since early 2015.
