EEW Special Pipe Constructions has loaded out the first three monopiles at the port of Rostock for Northland Power’s 268.8MW Deutsche Bucht offshore wind project.
Seajacks’ jack-up vessel Scylla is expected to kick off the installation of monopiles and transition pieces on behalf of balance of plant contractor Van Oord within weeks.
The vessel will transport and install three monopiles and transition pieces per trip, a spokeswoman for the developer said.
In total, 31 monopiles will be installed at the construction site some 95km off the island of Borkum in water depths of around 40 metres.
The first transition pieces fabricated by a Idesa and Windar Renovables joint venture in Aviles, Spain, were delivered to Cuxhaven in July.
MHI Vestas will supply and install 8.4MW turbines in 2019.
In addition to the project’s 31 conventional monopile foundations, two turbines will be installed atop Universal Foundation-made suction bucket monopile foundations. Installation of the substructures is scheduled for next spring.
The Deutsche Bucht project will be connected to the 800MW BorWin Beta offshore grid hub in operation since early 2015.
