Dutch/German transmission system operator TenneT has completed the grid connection for WPD’s 111MW Nordergründe offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.
The TSO carried out the work following installation of the 2000-tonne transformer for the offshore substation in September some 15km northeast of the island Wangerooge.
WPD had had to postpone the commissioning of the project after substation supplier BVT filed for insolvency in autumn 2016, delaying delivery of the structure.
The remaining substation work was carried out by several sub-contractors, with GE delivering the HV/MV equipment, Muehlhan doing the coating and Stahlbau Nord finalising the steel works.
TenneT had completed cable installation in the summer of 2016.
The project’s 18 Senvion 6.2M126 turbines can now operate and generate electricity to the mainland grid, TenneT said.
