The Scottish government is to give the green light to ABO Wind UK’s up to 21MW Hartwood wind farm in North Lanarkshire following an appeal by the developer.
North Lanarkshire Council’s planning committee rejected the project, which will feature seven turbines with 126.5-metre tip heights, in September 2016.
ABO Wind submitted the appeal to the Scottish government’s Planning and Environmental Appeals Division in January.
The project is located on publicly-owned land in and around the Murdostoun forest that is managed by Forestry Commission Scotland and the James Hutton Institute.
It will have a direct grid connection into existing overhead power cables.
The developers estimate that construction could start late next year with completion towards the end of the following year.
ABO Wind UK head of development Clark Crosbie said: “After more than three years in the planning process, we are extremely pleased to receive this news.
“From the outset, we were confident this project met all of the necessary planning and environmental standards and this was reflected through no statutory objections and a very low number of public objections.”
