Building Energy has inaugurated the 10MW Tororo solar plant in Uganda.
The company developed, built and arranged financing for the project, which will generate approximately 16 gigawatt-hours of electricity a year.
Dutch development bank FMO provided $14.7m to the project, with a further $4.9m from shareholder equity.
Tororo was developed under the global energy transfer feed-in tariff programme, which is a support scheme for renewable energy projects managed by Germany’s KfW Development Bank in partnership with Uganda’s Electricity Regulatory Agency.
The programme is funded by the EU-Africa Infrastructure Trust Fund and the governments of Norway, Germany and the UK.
