The UK government is “very positive” about supporting remote islands wind and has outlined a timetable that could clear the way for Scottish projects to bid into a Contract for Difference round in 2019, according to Western Isles officials.
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar leader Roddie Mackay said Scotland Office Minister Lord Duncan confirmed during a recent meeting that “the government is committed to supporting and funding the interconnector” to the mainland grid network.
“Lord Duncan was clear that the Comhairle’s approach to achieving the interconnector was the correct one and he advised that we keep working with the government and with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy to reinforce the positive case we were making,” said Mackay.
“Based on Lord Duncan’s advice, the Comhairle will continue to engage with government, regulators and the developer community to ensure that the recent positive progress is maintained”.
An announcement is expected soon on future supports for islands wind in the Western and Northern isles off Scotland.
