WPD has completed installation of the 2000-tonne transformer for the offshore substation at the 111MW Nordergründe offshore wind farm in the North Sea.
The transformer platform is now sitting on a monopile foundation at the project site some 15km to the north-east of the island of Wangerooge, the company said.
WPD had to postpone the commissioning of the project after substation supplier BVT filed for insolvency in autumn 2016.
The remaining substation work was carried out by several sub-contractors, with GE delivering the HV/MV equipment, Muehlhan doing the coating and Stahlbau Nord finalising the steel works.
WPD Offshore managing director Achim Berge Olsen said: “I’m happy to say that we have advanced the project by a giant step and that we are now able to prepare for final commissioning.”
Nordergründe consists of 18 Senvion 6.2M126 turbines, installation of which was completed in December 2016.
Full commissioning of the wind farm is scheduled for the end of the year.
