VBMS has started installation of 66kV cables at EDF Energy Renewables’ 41.5MW Blyth offshore wind demonstration project off the coast of Northumberland in the UK.
About 11km of Nexans-made cabling will be installed and buried using VBMS’ Ndurance and Grand Canyon vessels.
VBMS managing director Arno van Poppel said: “VBMS is very proud to be the first company connecting a UK offshore wind farm to the grid using state-of-the-art 66kV subsea cables.”
Jan de Nul jack-up Vole au Vent will start later this month installing the five MHI Vestas 8MW turbines optimised to 8.3MW at the project.
First power is expected from the project before the end of the year, EDF said.
Installation of the project’s five gravity base foundations was completed last month using a ‘float and submerge’ technique for the first time, the company added.
