Tekmar Energy has won a contract from VBMS to supply cable protection systems (CPS) for EDF’s 41.5MW Blyth offshore wind demonstration project off the coast of Northumberland.
The company said it will deliver its TekLink system, bellmouths, cover disks and hang-offs for the wind farm, which will be the first to feature 66kV cabling supplied by Nexans.
The cables and CPS will be installed by VBMS in the summer of 2017.
Tekmar head of offshore wind sales Jack Simpson said: “The Blyth offshore windf arm, being the first 66kv project is particularly significant for Tekmar, and the industry as a whole.
“This may mark a new standard moving forward, helping further reduce the overall cost of energy.”
Meanwhile, EDF is holding a series of public events starting today to provide the latest information on the 41.5MW Blyth demonstration wind farm off the coast of Northumberland.
The first session will take place at Blyth Workspace at Commissioners Quay between 5pm and 6.30pm today, with another event at the same venue and time on 29 June.
The Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult in Blyth will host a session on 27 June, also between 5pm and 6.30pm.
A public information and exhibition about the wind farm is also on show at Blyth Town Centre Library and the Dave Stephens Centre at Blyth Beach until 7 July.
The project will consist of five MHI Vestas 8.3MW turbines installed about 6.5km off the coast of Blyth.
