Seaway Heavy Lifting has completed installation of the first jacket foundation at the 588MW Beatrice wind farm off Scotland.
SHL, which is the balance of plant contractor, completed the first jacket installation over the weekend. Its Oleg Strashnov vessel is on the job.
The foundations are being made at yards across Europe by BiFab, Bladt and Smulders.
Project manager Steve Wilson said: “Seeing the first jacket arrive from the fabricators in Newcastle and being installed offshore is yet another testament to the hard work and determination of everyone involved in the project.
“As well as being large complex structures, these jackets will be the deepest water fixed foundations of any offshore wind farm. It has taken significant time and resource to get them ready for installation in the Moray Firth so it’s a great achievement to have the first one in place.”
SHL is also continuing with pre piling at foundation locations in the Moray Firth.
The wind farm is being developed by SSE, SDIC Power of China and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners.
Beatrice will feature 84 Siemens 7MW turbines when fully commissioned in 2019.
