EDF Energy Renewables has taken delivery of the first four of 20 battery containers for its 49MW West Burton B energy storage project in Nottinghamshire, UK.
The containers were supplied by Nidec ASI, which is also providing the system’s power conversion equipment.
The batteries will be paired with an energy management system developed by the French utility giant’s in-house EDF Store and Forecast R&D unit.
West Burton B last year won a enhanced frequency response grid service contract from National Grid.
EDF Energy Renewables operations director Don Mackay said: “The milestone represents the successful co-ordination of activities and the hard work of our main contractors, West Burton B CCGT plant and the project team to get us to this point.”
