Nidec ASI has secured contracts to supply 45MW of battery storage capacity for three projects in Finland and Sweden.
The first of the battery energy storage systems will be installed in Finland, for Neoen, and will have a capacity of 30MW.
The plant, located near the city of Lappeenranta in the south-east part of the country, will provide grid stabilisation and other services.
The other two projects, comprising a 9MW and a 6MW installation, will be installed in Sweden, in Lowen and Edsele respectively, for Uniper.
Nidec ASI will act as engineering, procurement and construction contractor.
The systems will be used to storage surplus renewable energy, mitigate grid congestion and provide grid stability.
In Italy Nidec ASI will also participate in the new call for tenders issued by grid operator Terna for the design, construction and installation of an inertial storage system.
The postponed call for tenders should be relaunched in the coming months, said Nidec ASI.
Nidec ASI CEO Dominique Llonch said: “I am particularly proud of the results we have achieved in Finland and Sweden, two countries that have been investing in this sector for decades, tangibly contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting the sustainable development of the energy market.
“These projects prove how Nidec ASI continues to be effectively committed to energy transition for a 100% electric future with a very low environmental impact, offering innovative and customised solutions.
“It is essential for Italy to follow a similar evolutionary path too. This is why I hope that the recovery plan the Government intends to unveil in September will also focus heavily on renewables, that the Terna project will be able to start again soon, and that we as Nidec ASI will contribute to the realisation of similar systems in the country.”
