French shipyard STX has completed the shell of the offshore substation for Eon’s 385MW Arkona wind farm in the German Baltic Sea.
Following a keel laying ceremony, STX has moved the unit by barge to a dry dock.
The 4000-tonne substation will be installed at the Arkona site in the first quarter of 2018 on a four-legged jacket foundation built by STX.
Offshore construction of the wind farm is set to start this year 35km northeast of the island of Rugen in the German Baltic Sea.
Van Oord will install EEW-built monopile foundations at water depths of 23 to 37 metres, while Bladt will supply transition pieces for the project.
A2Sea will install 60 Siemens turbines, boosted to 6.45MW each.
VBMS has been awarded a contract for the installation of 65 array cables for the wind farm.
Norwegian company Statoil has a 50% stake in the €1.2bn project.
