Granada Material Handling has won a contract from Babcock International Group to supply two davit cranes for the substations at the 588MW Beatrice offshore wind farm in the Moray Firth.
The contract covers the design, manufacture, delivery, commissioning and third-party certification of the two python cranes that have been specially designed for the two offshore transformer modules (OTM).
Each crane is four metres high, has a four-and-a-half metre radius and weighs two tonnes.
The cranes have a maximum lifting capacity of 1.6 tonnes, which is needed to hoist the heavier serviceable components from the supply vessel to the laydown area on the OTM foundation platform, the company said.
The crane will delivered over a six-month period, Granada said.
Granada Material Handling director Mark Sidwell said: “Granada has ambitious plans for this market sector and having supplied over 750 offshore davits is one of Europe’s leading offshore wind farm davit crane suppliers.
“We are currently working with designers, wind farm developers and turbine manufacturers to further enhance the product range to ensure the very latest developments in lifting technology are made available to the rapidly expanding and ever developing offshore renewable market.”
Granada has already been contracted to supply cranes to the foundation platforms for the Beatrice’s wind turbines.
