Smulders has awarded Granada Material Handling a contract to supply 90 davit cranes for the 860MW Triton Knoll offshore wind farm off the east coast of England.
Each ‘Python’ crane, which will be fitted to the transition piece platforms, will be specifically designed for the project and be capable of lifting up to 1.5 tonnes.
Granada will design, supply, third party certify, deliver and commission the four-metre high individual cranes.
The company said it is already looking to place orders and sub-contract specialist areas of work to other UK businesses, and will deliver the cranes over a six-month period.
Granada Material Handling director Mark Sidwell said: “We are extremely pleased to have been awarded another prestigious UK wind farm project. Securing this contract has been a real team effort by the Granada Renewable product and service division.
“The Triton Knoll contract is not only great news for Granada but also for our UK based supply chain. Granada has ambitious plans for this market sector and having supplied over 1000 offshore davits is the UK’s leading offshore wind farm davit crane supplier.”
Triton Knoll project director Julian Garnsey said: “I’m delighted to welcome Granada Material Handling to Triton Knoll via our lead foundations contractor Smulders, and helping us deliver our target of at least 50% UK content throughout the project lifecycle.
“Granada first entered the offshore sector through our sister project Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm in North Wales, and we are very pleased to be able to continue our long association with them.
“Contract awards such as this help further demonstrate that the offshore wind industry has both the scope and scale to encourage the growth of a UK sector with the expertise and experience to become a global leader.”
