Statoil is making “good progress” with assembly of Siemens 6MW turbines ahead of deployment later this year at the 30MW Hywind Scotland floating offshore wind demonstrator in the UK.
The company is staging the hardware at the port of Stord on the west coast of Norway where, once complete, they will be joined to floating spar foundations.
Heavylift will be carried out by giant vessel Saipem 7000.
“The tower structures will be lifted to the substructure, ballasted and left standing,” said Statoil.
“Late summer the five wind turbines will be towed to Scotland and chained to the seabed,” she added.
Statoil has posted a video of the turbine assembly online.
