Global beer brewer Anheuser-Busch InBev has committed to secure all its electricity from renewable energy sources by 2025.
The commitment involves the shifting of six terawatt-hours of electricity from conventional to renewable generation each year.
It will make Anheuser-Busch InBev the largest corporate direct purchaser of renewable electricity in the consumer goods industry, the company said.
Anheuser-Busch InBev will start the transformation in Mexico, where it owns its largest brewery.
It has signed a power purchase agreement to buy 490 gigawatt-hours of clean power each year from Iberdrola.
The company, which owns brands such as Budweiser and Stella, plans to enter into similar agreements in other markets in the near future.
Overall, the brewer expects to secure 75-85% of its electricity through direct power purchasing agreements and the balance from on-site technologies such as solar panels.
“Cutting back on fossil fuels is good for the environment and good for business, and we are committed to helping drive positive change,” chief executive Carlos Brito said.
