The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has released a new standard that includes lidar measurements for wind turbine and resource assessments.
The IEC 61400-12-1:2017 standard delivers the technical basis for the acceptance of lidar measurements for wind turbine power performance testing and wind resource assessments.
The release is a major milestone for the increasingly-mature technology, according to ZephIR Lidar.
This is because it formally allows the use of lidar as a supplementary or alternative measurement technique to mast-mounted cup anemometers.
The IEC is the international standards and conformity assessment body for all fields of electrotechnology.
