The Chilean government has given environmental approval to SolarReserve’s 450MW Tamarugal solar project with thermal energy storage in the Tarapacá region of the South American country.
The project will consist of three 150MW solar thermal towers, each with 13 hours of energy storage.
SolarReserve plans to bid to supply electricity from the project in Chile’s next capacity auction.
SolarReserve senior vice president of development Tom Georgis said: “The Tamarugal project will help stabilise and lower electricity costs for Chilean families and businesses, while ensuring energy security for the country.”
