The Dutch province of Friesland is planning to invest up to €127m in the 320MW Fryslan offshore wind farm at Ijsselmeer lake.
Provincial authorities have signed a cooperation agreement with project developer Ventolines which, if approved by the local council on 19 April, will lead to a definitive deal by 15 May.
It would be the first time a Dutch province has participated directly in the development of a wind farm, the developer said.
The funding will be released when construction is about to start and project financing is in place around the second half of 2018.
The 89-turbine wind farm is expected to generate its first power in 2021.
