Municipal utility Elektrizitätswerk der Stadt Zürich (EWZ) and Swiss investor Fontavis have acquired a 24.5% stake in the 200MW Borkum West 2.2 wind farm in the German North Sea.
The move represents a major step for EWZ’s aim to generate all of its electricity from renewables by 2034, it said.
Trianel and EWE both hold a 37.5% share in the consented offshore wind project, for which a final investment decision is expected in April.
Offshore construction would kick-off in Spring 2018, with full commercial operation reached by the end of 2019.
Trianel has selected 32 6.3MW Senvion turbines for the facility, which will be located about 45km from the island of Borkum. They will be installed at water depths of 25 to 35 metres.
Borkum West 2.2 is scheduled to be connected to the Dolwin 1 grid hub in late April 2019.
