A new EU-backed project has launched aiming to support local authorities on Mediterranean islands in planning the transition to low-carbon energy systems.
The Prismi initiative is funded through the European Cooperation Programme for the Mediterranean area.
It aims to develop an integrated toolkit to assess and map renewable energy systems for five areas.
They are the islands of Favignana in Italy, Korcula in Croatia, Tilos in Greece, Gozo in Malta and the Akamas Peninsula of Cyprus.
The project, which will run for 18 months, is headed by Sapienza University of Rome and has six partners.
They are the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources and Saving, University of Zagreb, Cyprus Energy Agency, Piraeus University of Applied Sciences, Malta Intelligent Energy Management Agency and the Municipality of Favignana.
