Southern Power has acquired the 276MW Bethel wind energy center in Texas from Invenergy Services.
The project, which is located in Castro County, is being constructed by Blattner Energy and is expected to be complete this month.
On completion, Invenergy Services will operate and maintain the facility, which consists of 120 GE 2.3-116 turbines.
The majority of the electricity and associated renewable energy credits (RECs) generated by the wind farm will be sold under a long-term agreement with Google Energy.
Southern Power, through its subsidiaries, will retain the remainder of the electricity and associated RECs, which it may keep or sell.
Southern Power president and chief executive Buzz Miller said: “Bethel Wind is an important piece of our renewable portfolio as we expand our wind generating capacity in 2017.”
