Dong Energy will have “preferred access rights” to wind turbine towers that will be manufactured at a CS Wind factory extension in Campbeltown in Scotland.
The deal follows a “multi-million pound investment” from Dong that will result in the first UK facility to manufacture towers for the offshore wind market.
Dong said the development will produce at least 50 towers a year and will safeguard 70 jobs.
The first 95 towers to be built at the plant have been ordered by Siemens Wind Power, Dong said.
Dong UK country chairman Brent Cheshire said: “Our investment means that we and other offshore wind developers will be able to source towers in the UK, which is fantastic news not just for us but the whole UK offshore industry.”
