EWE has committed to building the 203MW Borkum West 2.2 offshore wind farm in the German North Sea alongside partner Trianel.
The utility was already on board as joint development partner but has now provisionally signed on the line for construction of the €800m project.
A final investment decision is due in the first half of next year and construction is scheduled to start in early 2018.
Full operation of Senvion 6.2M turbines (pictured) is due before the end of 2019.
EWE and Trianel will each hold 37.5% of the project. Negotiations are underway with “interested third-party investors” over the remaining 25%.
Borkum West 2.1 features 40 Areva (now Adwen) 5MW turbines and went live in 2015.
