STX France has started structure fabrication on the offshore substation for the 309MW Rentel wind farm, which will be located in the Belgian North Sea.
The work is being carried out at the company’s Saint-Nazaire yard in France and will take “several months”, the company said.
Following fabrication, the electrical equipment will be integrated before installation on a monopile foundation at the project site, STX said.
The company signed a contract in April to engineer, fabricate, transport and install the substation, which is scheduled for delivery in spring 2018.
STX France’s offshore business unit teams designed the foundation and topside.
